SHIFT:                                         Swing, Grave M-F  Swing, Grave, WEEKENDS ONLY

SUPERVISOR:                            BHC Program Manager

STATUS:                                      Full-time/Part-time, Non-exempt

 

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

HomeFirst is embarking on a new project in partnership with the City of San Jose’s Housing Department, to operate the Bridge Housing Communities (BHC) pilot program. The BHC program, commonly referred to as the “Tiny Homes” project, will serve homeless individuals in newly developed communities in San Jose. Each community will consist of 40 sleeping units (aka Tiny Homes), shared restrooms, laundry, showers, and kitchen in a centralized building, along with a multi-purpose room and HomeFirst staff office space. 

HomeFirst will manage the property and offer on-site support services to the individuals residing at the BHC. Additionally, HomeFirst will engage the surrounding community to become involved in the BHC program. The target population for this program are individuals currently enrolled in Rapid Rehousing Programs (a county-wide program designed to quickly house homeless individuals and families with short term rental subsidies) with either HomeFirst or other service providers. Individuals participating in the BHC program are offered interim housing in one of the BHC locations, usually for less than 3 months, while they secure permanent housing with the support of their Rapid Rehousing (RRH) case manager. Services offered on-site will be designed to supplement services being provided by the individuals RRH case manager. 

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

General (10%)

  • Represent HomeFirst and the program appropriately to volunteers, donors, outside agencies and the public
  • Assist with office-related tasks as needed
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and trainings
  • Perform other general duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience
  • AA degree (or equivalent of 2 years of higher education) or three years of field experience in social services
  • Sensitivity to the needs of unhouses individuals
  • Experience working with unhoused population
  • Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds with various lifestyles, sexual orientations ad of all ages and genders

 

  • Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
  • Proven ability to develop client service or housing plans
  • Ability to work with people of diverse social backgrounds; strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, email, and internet, and able to learn data entry using web-based database systems
