PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The position of Clinical Supervisor is a Senior Leadership position. It’s an exciting new position, designed to strengthen the clinical services offered by HomeFirst Services. This is a perfect position for someone passionate about providing clinical leadership, while working with the homeless or formerly homeless populations. Together with the Clinical Services Director, the Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical guidance and leadership for the agency. The Clinical Supervisor will provide direct management and support for clinicians, drug and alcohol counselors, occupational therapists, and interns/trainees in a variety of programs at HomeFirst.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Internship

  • Help facilitate the planning, promoting, recruitment, and onboarding activities for interns/trainees across the agency, including attending intern fairs
  • Help place interns in various departments throughout the agency
  • Provide direct oversight, clinical management, and support to interns/trainees
  • Participate in intern/trainee performance evaluations, and prepare documentation as required by the schools
  • Serve as liaison between HomeFirst and schools, as assigned
  • Ensure interns/trainees receive all appropriate and required field placement supervision

Clinical Management

  • Provide clinical supervision, training, and guidance to clinicians, occupational therapists, and drug and alcohol counselors, within scope of practice, and consistent with licensing board and agency standards
  • Provide oversite to ensure provision of client-centered services are administered professionally, effectively and consistent with HomeFirst values and principals 
  • Directly manage the clinical staff mentioned above
  • Oversee the hiring, on-boarding, and evaluation of the clinical staff mentioned above
  • Provide clinical leadership in areas of assessment, case conferences, treatment plans, and interventions to ensure quality care
  • Train and coach staff on Medi-Cal documentation standards, and review Mental Health Assessments, Transformational Care Plans, and Progress Notes as a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA)
  • Organize and assign clinician caseloads
  • Provide consultation, assessment, and intervention to agency staff, in response to client crises, including providing coverage in emergency situations

General:

  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance activities, such as monitoring client care, and ensuring compliance of client records and documentation
  • Pursue the consistent application of industry best practices
  • Support in the evaluation and analysis of department infrastructure and services
  • Effective involvement with the Coordinated Entry System and City of San Jose and Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing 
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of community trends
  • Attend and participate in staff, program, agency, and community meetings, as required
  • Ensure license and continuing education credits are up to date
  • Attend ongoing supervision trainings included but not limited to: Reflective Supervision, Competency Based Supervision, and additional behavioral health trainings on best practices and methods
  • Ensure accurate and timely date entry of information into the electronic health records system
  • Support in the evaluation and analysis of department infrastructure and services
  • Collaborate frequently and closely with various programs within the agency to provide seamless and quality service delivery
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning with the Support Services Director, and support achievement of the identified goals
  • Initiate and facilitate in-house behavioral health trainings and workshops, for staff development and education
  • Know and implement agency and program policies and procedures
  • Forge internal and external partnerships to support department efforts 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in the mental health profession, required
  • At least 4 years’ experience working in a behavioral health setting, preferred
  • Current license from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an LMFT or LCSW, OR current license from the California Board of Psychology (BOP) as a clinical psychologist.
  • Current license must have been held for at least 2 years
  • Certification to supervise interns, required

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with best practices and core competencies in Clinical Supervision, along with multiple supervision models
  • Knowledge of clinical techniques for assessment, treatment, and interventions for people with behavioral health illnesses
  • Experience managing the supervisor/supervisee relationship
  • Knowledge of the legal and ethical guidelines for clinical practice for each discipline and licensing board
  • Demonstrated ability to both work independently and collaborate with teams
  • Ability to organize and manage a caseload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Work from a strengths-based and harm reduction model
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of the homeless and recently housed population
  • High level of flexibility and ability to independently prioritize appropriately
  • Work effectively with people from different value systems, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, and disabilities
  • Work effectively with vulnerable and under-represented populations
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and auto insurance
  • Reliable personal vehicle
  • Comfortable and knowledgeable with using computer software and databases
  • Physical duties will include walking, sitting, ability to lift 25lbs
