POSITION:                           Delivery  Driver

PROGRAM/LOCATION:   Boccardo Reception Center (BRC) 

SUPERVISOR:                      Fleet Coordinator/Emergency Shelter Services Director

STATUS:                                Full Time 

 

 

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

 

Driver will be responsible for deliveries/pick-ups, loading, unloading and proper handling of goods, food items from A pre-determined list of locations and a route for pick-up and delivery will be provided, along with training and proper tools necessary to fulfill the job’s obligations.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Drive a company vehicle to different sites and locations
  • Accurately follow routes, maps, directions, well organized and able to follow a schedule
  • Ensure vehicle is ready for use prior to operating the vehicle daily (e.g. proper temperature in food storage compartment; sufficient fuel)
  • Take and record internal temperatures of food items at all stores, while in vehicle, and upon delivery to identified locations
  • Able to work night, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Record weight of donated food items
  • Record all donated food items through online platform
  • Drive for prolonged amounts of time
  • Follow schedules and rerouting in a timely manner when faced with traffic or congestion
  • Reliable and punctual with dedicated professionalism to job and duties
  • Load and unload vehicles, and trucks
  • Follow all state and national safety regulations and standards
  • Maintain trips logs which give details, such as passenger count, route details, etc.
  • Document vehicle issues, route details, fuel intakes and maintenance in respective logs
  • Help maintain and keep the vehicles and trucks clean and operational
  • Provide daily maintenance, pre-trip inspections and report any issues to management
  • Transport individuals and pick-up supplies for other programs, as needed
  • Attend meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Complete other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience

 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year prior experience driving

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

 

  • Ability to secure Food Handler Certificate, if needed
  • Able to follow directions, read maps, and familiarity with Santa Clara County and other counties
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Understanding and concern for the issue of homelessness
  • Able to work with people of diverse social background and professional rank
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to secure First Aid certificate

 

Other

 

  • Valid California class C driver license
  • Safe driving record (at a minimum, must have no more than two minor traffic violations in the past three years)
  • Must have clear drug test
  • Walk, bend, twist, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Regularly lift and carry 25-50 pounds
  • Heavy lifting required (up to 50 lbs.)
