PROGRAM SUMMARY:

 

HomeFirst is a leading provider of services, shelter, and housing opportunities to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Santa Clara County. This position will support the operation of the emergency shelter and Veterans transitional housing programs located at the Boccardo Reception Center in San Jose.

 

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Emergency Shelter Director (20 hours). Primary functions may include:
  • Generate staff schedules
  • Maintain and update classroom schedules
  • Track grievances
  • May assist with filing, copying, shredding and other clerical functions
  • Assist with ordering uniforms
  • Assist with distributing educational information to clients
  • Assist with implementing surveys to clients
  • Assist in updating and maintaining resource binders
  • May assist with returning client phone calls and messages
  • May assist with responding to non-client letters
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Veterans Transitional Housing Program (20 hours). Primary functions may include:
    • Food box ordering and distribution
    • Workshop preparation
    • File organization
    • Maintaining the program waiting list
    • Preparing and collecting attendance sheets
    • Assisting with appointment/project scheduling
    • Tracking unit inspections
    • May assist with phone calls and messages as needed
  • Assist with other duties assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in office or program administration preferred

 

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain priorities and meet established deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Desire to work with people of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Sensitive to the needs of the homeless
  • Understanding of and strong adherence to social work ethics

 

 

Other:

 

  • Able to Stand/sit for extended periods, kneel, reach and bend related to the completion of duties;
  • Able to perform sedentary work;
  • Ability to use keyboard and read computer screens for extended periods
  • Able to lift and carry 35 lbs.
