POSITION: Housing Specialist
PROGRAM: Rapid Re-Housing Program (RRH)
LOCATION: Boccardo Reception Center
SUPERVISOR: Program Coordinator

The goal of the RRH program is to provide housing stability to homeless individuals, and households
in the city of San Jose, California. We achieve this goal by providing participants with comprehensive
supportive services to help them attain permanent housing including intensive, individualized case
management services and targeted financial assistance.
The RRH Housing Specialist will assist participants with securing and maintaining stable housing.


Direct services (80%)
• Actively seek and identify available housing opportunities
• Assist participants with securing appropriate permanent housing through housing search,
   application assistance, and other supportive services
• Collaborate with RRH case manager to connect participant to community resources to
    maintain housing
• Work with individual landlords/site managers to address client tenancy and provide
    mediation as necessary
• Educate participants in tenant rights and their responsibilities as good tenants
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for all participants
• Conduct landlord outreach and coordinate with housing providers
• Meet the program service delivery goals and outcomes
• Participate in countywide collaborative efforts to access and track housing resources
• Collect and maintain thorough and accurate records of client data in accordance with
    HomeFirst policies and procedures
• Maintain Clarity (HMIS) database by entering client data daily

General (20%)
• Attend all meetings relevant to this position
• Assist with office-related tasks as needed
• Assist with other duties assigned

• High school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field human services
   field preferred
• Have a minimum of 2 years experience in housing
• Ability to quickly build trust and rapport in interpersonal relationships
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional listing, critical thinking , and problem solving skills
• Strong facilitation and mediation skill
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community partners and outside agencies
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and be flexible with priorities
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain priorities and meet established deadlines
• Exceptional organizational skills
• High level of flexibility and ability to prioritize appropriately
• Ability to work with people of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
• Understanding of fair housing law and tenants’ rights and responsibilities
• Understanding of and strong adherence to social work ethics
• Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of the homeless
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office applications and the Internet
• Clean driving record
• Valid CA driver’s license, reliable transportation, and legally required insurance
