POSITION:                                   General Accounting Manager

PROGRAM/LOCATION:               Administrative office/Milpitas, CA

SUPERVISOR:                             Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

STATUS:                                       Full-time, Exempt

 

 

PROGRAM SUMMARY:  

HomeFirst is a leading provider of services, shelter, and housing opportunities to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Santa Clara County.  The Administrative office houses instrumental support personnel of the agency, including the following departments: Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Fund Development, and Data Management.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the daily accounting activities, including the preparation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, supervision of accounts payable, and the preparation of financial statements.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·   Plan, organize, and direct the work of staff on the team;

  • Mentor and develop staff;
  • Supervise and assist with the monthly and year-end closings;
  • Prepare the monthly financial statements;
  • Supervise the preparation of schedules for audits;
  • Accounts payable supervision;
  • Supervision of cash receipts depositing and the posting of related journal entries;
  • Supervise the reporting and reconciliation of prepaids, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts;
  • Fixed asset accounting and depreciation;
  • Management of credit card and PEX card utilization;

        ·   Review and approve journal entries prepared by staff;

        ·  Assist in the preparation of forms and regulatory reports;

        ·  Provide the primary back-up to Grant Accounting Manager for spreadsheet allocations of payroll, benefits, shelter, driver, program management, and food service expenses;

        ·  Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

     ·  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in accounting;
  • A minimum of three years’ experience supervising staff performing accounting functions;

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Experience working with and managing a major accounting software package; experience using Financial Edge a plus;
  • Excellent knowledge and skills using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office applications;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Other

  • Able to stand/sit for extended periods, kneel, reach and bend related to completion of duties;
  • Able to perform sedentary work;
  • Ability to use a keyboard and read computer screens for extended periods;
  • Able to lift and carry 35 lbs.
